Desi Cow (Indian Breed Cows) is the name which is given to the cows found in the Indian sub-continent According to Vedas, the cows are considered as the mother (Gau Mata). When they are kept happy, serviced, protected and revered, positive rays are sent into the atmosphere. To recognize an Indian cow, look for hump of the shoulder, hanging skin around the neck, big horns and particularly long ears. There are many different breeds of Desi Cows. India has around 37 breeds of cows. Some of them are –
Gir
Girs are considered to be the most gentle of the Zebu breeds. This breed of cows features forehead of a convex shape which helps them in cooling their pituitary gland and the brain. It has been used locally in the improvement of other breeds including the Red Sindhi and the Sahiwal.
Arvin East
This is a breed of cattle cows which came down from the line of the Hallikar breed of cows and coexisted along relatable breeds like Chithradurg and Hagalavadi. They were originally found in the Mysore state in Karnataka. Arvin East Bullocks are popular for their high speed and endurance and are anciently used in wars. These cows are classified to be a draught breed Due to poor milk yielding.
Sahiwal
It is zebu dairy cattle’s one of the most important breeds and it originally existed from the Sahiwal district of Punjab province. Sahiwal is considered one of the indigenous cow breed of Punjab and under the ‘Rashtriya Gokul Mission’ incentives are given to rear this endangered breed. Other than Pakistan and India, now this breed exists in around seventeen countries.
Brahman
The Indian-origin Brahman cattle breed is named after the Brahmins, who themselves are named after the Hindu deity Brahma. It is ironic that a cattle breed named after the sacred Hindu icon has become the largest source of meat for meat-eaters. This breed is widely used in countries like the United States, Argentina, Paraguay, Austraila, Brazil, Columbia and other parts of the world.
Tharparkar
The name is derived from Thar Desert of Rajasthan. This dual-purpose breed called Tharparkar is found in Rann of Kutch in Gujrat, Indo-Pak border and Western Rajasthan. It is known for the good milking potential. This breed can survive well in desert area on small bushy vegetation (Sewan grass) during drought and fodder scarcity condition and produce reasonabe amount of milk.
Red Sindhi
Red Sindhi cattle are the most popular of all Indian Breed Cows. It is Indian sub continent’s one of the most important dairy cattle. This breed is presently found in the states of Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Odisha and Hyderabad in India.. The cows of this breed are exported to other countries outside India and Pakistan because of their high milk yielding capacity.
